Edward Hyatt, second Riverside County Superintendent of Schools
January 5, 1895 - January 7, 1907
Edward Hyatt served three terms being re-elected as county superintendent in the 1898 and 1902 elections. During his tenure, the Riverside County school system attained state-wide and national distinction. The County’s educational institutes were well-known and Edward was in demand as an institute speaker throughout the state.
During his tenure, Hyatt succeeded in:
Building a positive image of himself and the office;
Carrying out administrative duties;
Visiting each school in the county at least annually;
Developing and implementing office policies;
Providing effective professional development experiences for all the teachers;
Working with other county school superintendents and the state superintendent to standardize policies procedures.
Hyatt became the California State Superintendent on January 7, 1907.
