Educational Services | Bilingual Teacher Training Program (BTTP)
The Bilingual Teacher Training Program assists K-12 teachers who already possess a basic credential to attain authorizations required by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC). The training program prepares teachers for examinations leading to the California Teachers of English Learners (CTEL) or Bilingual Cross-cultural Language and Academic Development (BCLAD) certifications. Training curriculum and modules are aligned to the Knowledge Skills Areas (KSA) described for the Cross-cultural Language and Academic Development (CLAD) and BCLAD certifications. Modules one, two, and three address CTEL competencies and modules four, five, and six address additional competencies of BCLAD in a specific language and culture of emphasis.
The program offers the California Teachers of English Learners (CTEL); Bilingual, Cross-cultural, Language and Academic Development (BCLAD); and Spanish for Educators classes for teachers working toward their certificates. A CTEL Review Session is also offered twice a year in preparation for the CTEL state examination. This program also provides Trainer of Trainers institutes for its continuing and new BTTP class instructors.
