Disaster Service Workers (DSW) Training

The Safe Schools Unit has developed training materials to ensure that you, as a designated Disaster Service Worker, can do the following:

  1. Understand the critical role you play in responding to and recovering from a disaster as a County employee at RCOE and as a Disaster Service Worker.
  2. Help you prepare and protect yourself and your family first, so you can then focus on helping others.
  3. Understand your possible job roles in a disaster.
  4. Introduce you to additional required and optional learning opportunities for disaster preparedness.

Individual Training for DSW Training and NIMS

All RCOE personnel are identified as Disaster Service Worker's. At a minimum, the following training requirements are as follows:

Step 1) Watch the Disaster Service Worker Training Video. (Requires QuickTime)

Step 2) Complete and obtain the “certification of completion” for the following two online courses.

IS-100.SC – Introduction to the Incident Command System for Schools

  • Up to 3 hours to complete
  • Introduces ICS and describes the history, features, principles and organizational structure of ICS
  • Explains the relationship between ICS and NIMS

IS-700 – Introduction to National Incident Management System (NIMS)

  • Up to 3 hours to complete
  • Identifies purposes, principles, key components and benefits of NIMS

Upon completion please forward copies of your certificate to the Safe Schools Unit, Emergency Management.
