Riverside County Office of Education
praised for work on earthquake preparedness
The Riverside County Office of Education has been noted by the Earthquake County Alliance as the first county in the state to achieve 100% participation from all local school districts and RCOE sites in preparations for the Great California ShakeOut, the largest earthquake drill in U.S. history scheduled for Oct 15, 2009.
At 10:15 a.m. on Oct. 15 all students and staff will drop to the ground, take cover under a table or desk, and hold on, along with millions of other Californians. The ShakeOut is based on a magnitude 7.8 earthquake that one day may shake all of Southern California strongly. This is the chance for us all to practice what to do so we are safe when it happens.
Earthquake preparedness is a responsibility of all Californians and we encourage you to also discuss earthquake readiness with your family and others at home, to take steps to get prepared, and to participate in the ShakeOut. Test your earthquake knowledge at http://www.dropcoverholdon.org/
