Sharon Baskett named to Riverside County Children and Families Commission
Sharon Baskett, Director of the Children Services Unit at the Riverside County Office of Education, has been appointed to the Riverside County Children and Families Commission, also known as First 5 Riverside. Her appointment is effective February 1, 2010.
Sharon Baskett has been the Director for Children’s Services Unit, Division of Children and Family Services, Riverside County Office of Education for the past 3 years. Her duties include the oversight of federal, state and local child care and early childhood development programs throughout Riverside County. The federal and state programs are funded through the California Department of Education, Child Development Division and must comply with Title 5 regulations.
Sharon has held numerous positions supporting Riverside County’s children and their families. Prior to returning to RCOE she held the Administrator position for Early Care and Education for the Riverside County Children and Families Commission for 6 years.
Her duties included management of the School Readiness Initiative, Special Needs Project, ABCD/Constructing Connections and the Power of Preschool efforts, as well as, developing and assisting programs county-wide in the field of strategic planning, capacity building, and early care and education.
Sharon’s early experience began working with young children in Special Education, Head Start, Center Base and State Preschool with the Riverside County Office of Education. During her 23 year tenure with RCOE she remained dedicated to the early childhood field. Sharon has served on many local and State Boards and Advisory Committees recognizing the importance of early intervention for young children and their families. Her goal is to continue advocating for young children and focusing her attention on higher quality of education and standards in this field.
First 5 Riverside is a public entity funded by Proposition 10 tobacco tax revenues and established by the County Board of Supervisors in 1999. First 5 Riverside provides funding of early education, health and child care services that help children through age 5 develop a strong foundation for success in school and throughout their lives.
