Foster Care Month Event
The Foster Youth Services Program hosted an event on May 26, 2010, to celebrate National Foster Care Month and to salute the people who make the difference in the lives of foster youth.
The event began with the presentation of the flag by the Van Horn Youth Center Color Guard, followed by opening comments by Riverside County Office of Education representatives Leland Daniels, Coordinator/Principal, and Dr. Diana Walsh-Reuss, Assistant Superintendent, and agency remarks by representatives from the Department of Public Social Services, Riverside County Probation, Department of Mental Health, and Riverside Community College.
Keynote speaker, Derek Clark, gave a moving presentation that included a brief history of his personal experience of 13 years in the foster care system, along with songs he has written that include words of encouragement and his mottos “Never Give Up” and “You Got the Power.”
There were approximately 75 attendees, including social workers, partner agencies, service providers, caregivers, and RCOE staff.
