2011 Riverside County History Day competition winners selected
The 28th Annual Riverside County History Day Competition wrapped up Saturday (March 19, 2011) with winners crowned after a full day of competition at Ramona High School in Riverside (photos from awards ceremony).
Grade 4 and 5 first- and second-place poster finishers, junior division first- and second-place finishers, and senior division first-, second- and third-place finishers will advance to the state competition April 28-May 1, 2011, in San Jose.
Winners in the state competition will advance to the nationals scheduled for June 12-16, 2011, at the University of Maryland, College Park.
The theme this year for History Day was “Debate and Diplomacy in History: Successes, Failures, Consequences.” The entries were judged with three criteria: historical quality, quality of presentation, and adherence to the theme. The work must be completely done by students.
History Day competitions started in September at the school level. This year, 221 students from 10 school districts and one charter school competed at the county level, representing 33 schools. There were 116 entries in the various categories.
