Riverside Community Hospital hosts special Prom
Riverside Community Hospital hosted a prom on Saturday, May 28, 2011, for students from the Arlington Regional Learning Center and Project Search. Approximately 27 students with Intellectual Disabilities attended the “Stars Forever” Event.
Many of the students commented that it was “The best Prom ever,” “I danced the entire night,” “Really had fun,” and “Loved the dance music.” The hospital provided the Health Education Center for the event along with food and decorations.
When Patrick Brilliant, CEO of Riverside Community Hospital, learned that the students would not be able to have a Prom due to school funding cuts, he arranged for the Project Search interns to use the hospital for their Prom.
Since March 2009, Riverside Community Hospital and Riverside County Office of Education have worked cooperatively to provide an Internship Program for the Project Search students. Project Search is a national program started to provide training for students during their last year of school within the medical fields.
Since Project Search began, there have been 23 Interns that have finished their rotations in Nutritional Services, Human Resources, Mail Room Services, X-Ray/Imaging, Sterile Processing, Housekeeping and Linen Services. Of the Interns who have completed the program, seventy percent (70%) have been hired in community jobs with the assistance of the California State Department of Vocational Rehabilitation.
Both Riverside Community Hospital and Riverside County Office of Education look forward to continued success of the Project Search Program.
