RCOE dedicates new Moreno Valley Regional Learning Center

The Riverside County Office of Education (RCOE) today (October 12, 2011) dedicated a new regional learning center that will house a military themed charter school and more than 200 students in the Moreno Valley area.

The Moreno Valley Regional Learning Center is located at 13730 Perris Boulevard, Moreno Valley.

This is the sixth regional learning center for RCOE, including the Milo P. Johnson Regional Learning Center in Banning, Arlington Regional Learning Center in Riverside, Val Verde Regional Learning Center in Perris, Betty Gibbel Regional Learning Center in San Jacinto, and the Don F. Kenny Education Center Indio.

The Moreno Valley Regional Learning Center (MVRLC) will house more than 200 students enrolled in a variety of programs, including: Independent Study; Cal-SAFE for Pregnant and Parenting Students; Riverside County Education Academy (RCEA, a charter school with a military focus); Come Back Kids dropout recovery program; ROP/CTE Health Programs (Medical and Nursing); and the Visually Handicapped Library, providing materials for visually handicapped students countywide.

The MVRLC is a 30,000-square-foot, $13.5 million project paid for entirely by state funding. Classes and programs begin there on October 17. The administrators will be Theresa Swickla, Instructional Specialist in Alternative Education, and Santos Campos, Commandant/Principal of the RCEA.

RCOE plans to break ground in November on a new regional learning center in Murrieta, which is scheduled to open in 2013.
