Betty G. Gibbel Regional Learning Center holds first-ever Career Fair
Students at the Betty G. Gibbel Regional Learning Center in San Jacinto participated in the school’s first-ever Career Fair last Friday (October 14, 2011) and met with representatives from almost a dozen employers.
“We should do this kind of thing more often,” said student Christian Alvarez, an eleventh-grader. “I really like this.”
The idea of the Career Fair for the Alternative Education students, some who have been unsuccessful in traditional high schools and/or are on probation, was to get them used to speaking to prospective employers, said Kim Scott, a counselor at the school.
“We wanted to give the students the experience of a Career Fair,” Scott said.
The school, operated by the Riverside County Office of Education (RCOE) and located at 1251 Eagle Road in San Jacinto, has about 100 students in Alternative Education, Come Back Kids dropout recovery program, and independent study.
Employers participating in the Career Fair were:
- RCOE Career Technical Education/Regional Occupational Program
- Delta Sigma Theta Sorority
- WYOTECH
- Mt. San Jacinto College
- U.S. Army
- California Family Life Center (CFLC)/Empower Youth
- Bureau of Land Management
- U.S. Air Force Reserves
- Cal Fire
- Riverside Community College
