Fifth Annual Fiesta Educativa event draws 300 to Riverside County Office of Education
Nearly 300 parents and professionals attended the Fifth Annual Fiesta Educativa conference on Saturday (February 25, 2012) at the Riverside County Office of Education (RCOE).
The Fiesta Educativa conference is planned by parents for Latino families who have children with special needs with the leadership and support of RCOE and numerous community partners.
In addition to generous support and donations from RCOE, other major community sponsors contributing to this great event were Inland Empire Health Plan, Molina Health Care, and the Riverside Community Health Foundation.
Workshop presenters addressed a range of topics, including: Autism, self-esteem, internet usage, Special Education assessment, Behavior Management, Student Transition to Adult Life, and Gang prevention.
Nearly all workshop sessions were presented in Spanish.
Event planners commented that "parents look forward to this event and leave with many great ideas. It is a great atmosphere to be a part of." The event has tripled in the numbers of participants in the past few years. The planning committee is considering a new venue to host next year's event.
Fiesta Educativa is facilitated by parent leaders Alma Rodriguez and Sal Mendez and RCOE Coordinator/Principal Jan Powell.
