Noted Rwanda Leader Visits RCOE
Hassan B. Jallow, Under Secretary General Prosecutor for the United Nations, met with Riverside County Superintendent of Schools Kenneth Young and members of the Superintendent’s Cabinet at RCOE’s main office in Riverside a day after he delivered a powerful message on genocide in Rwanda as a keynote speaker at the University of LaVerne.
Mr. Jallow was invited to speak to federal and county justices in Riverside as well as a number of several universities as a guest of Justice Douglass Miller of the Riverside Superior Court and attorney Jim Parkinson from the Coachella Valley. They announced plans for Under Secretary Jallow to return to Riverside County in the spring of 2010 to share his message with students.
Mr. Jallow is the lead prosecutor for the UN’s International Criminal Tribunal for the Rwanda crimes against humanity where over one million people were killed in 1994. Mr. Jallow and his team of over 150 prosecutors have been building cases and tracking, extraditing and conducting trials for over 15 years. He was also the lead prosecutor for the UN on the Council on Yugoslavia, the scene of another genocide.
Following his visit in California, Under Secretary Jallow flew to the East Coast to speak on a pannel with former US President Clinton and former Secretary of State Colin Powell.
