County Superintendent honors top academic achievers

Mr. Kenneth M. Young, Riverside County Superintendent of Schools, named 10 outstanding students to the 2008-2009 All-County Academic Team Wednesday, March 4, during the Fourth Annual Superintendents’ Academic Awards Banquet.

High schools from 18 school districts in the county nominated 129 students for honors based on their academic performance, GPA, SAT scores, and extracurricular activities (complete list of students honored). Each high school named from one to three students based on their enrollment. The All-County Academic Team was chosen from that list. 

The members of the All-County Academic Team were accompanied by their principals and superintendents. The team includes:

Andrew Blinkinsop

photo of Andrew BlinkinsopAndrew Blinkinsop is a senior at Palm Springs High School in the Palm Springs Unified School District.  He scored 2390 on his SAT, has a GPA of 4.63, and is ranked ninth in his class.  His activities and honors include: Riverside County Mock Trial Top Prosecutor, California Boys State Delegate, National Merit Semifinalist (awaiting Finalist status), National AP Scholar – Passed 8 AP Course Exams with scores of 5 – Calculus AB, Calculus BC, European History, Chemistry, English Language, Environmental Science, Statistics, and U.S. History, Scored a Perfect 800 on both Critical Reading and Math Portions of the SAT, National Latin Exam: Summa Cum Laude, and he is active in band and debate.

Eric Bourgain-Chan

North High School in the Riverside Unified School District.  (Principal is Dale Kinnear.)  He scored 2320 on his SAT, has a GPA of 4.62, and is ranked first in his class.  His activities and honors include: Varsity Swim, French Honor Society, Science Honor Society, AP Scholar with Distinction, Chess Club President, Riverside County Science Fair Silver Medalist, National Merit Semifinalist, National AP Scholar, International Baccalaureate Diploma Candidate, Accomplished Violinist, and volunteers as a science tutor.

Brian Choi

photo of Brian ChoiBrian Choi is a senior at Vista Murrieta High School in the Murrieta Valley Unified School District.  (Principal is Darren Daniel.)  He scored 2380 on his SAT, has a GPA of 4.42, and is ranked first in his class.  His activities and honors include: National Honor Society, California Scholarship Federation, National Merit Semifinalist (awaiting Finalist status), Boy Scout/Eagle Scout, Tae Kwon Do Black Belt 2nd Degree and Instructor, Interact Club, Medical Club, Scored a Perfect 800 on both Math and Writing Portions of the SAT, AP Scholar with Distinction, Scored a 5 on the following AP Exams – English Language, Biology, and Calculus AB, Accomplished Pianist, and he volunteers for various community service agencies.

Nisha Deolalikar

photo of Nisha DeolalikarNisha Deolalikar is a senior at Polytechnic High School in the Riverside Unified School District.  (Principal is Wade Coe.)  She scored 2320 on her SAT, has a GPA of 4.65, and is ranked first in her class.  Her activities and honors include: National Merit Semifinalist, Scored a Perfect 800 on the Writing Portion of the SAT, National AP Scholar, AP Scholar with Distinction, History Day State Finalist, Nationally-Ranked Chess Player, University-Level Researcher, University-Level Violinist, and she volunteers for various community service agencies.

Lincoln Jesser

photo of Lincoln JesserLincoln Jesser is a senior at Palm Desert High School in the Desert Sands Unified School District.  (Principal is Patrick Walsh.)  He scored 2360 on his SAT, has a GPA of 4.82, and is ranked fourth in his class.  His activities and honors include: Academic Decathlon, National Merit Semifinalist, National Honor Society, Interact Club, Boys State Representative, California Scholarship Federation, Scored a Perfect 800 on both Critical Reading and Math Portions of the SAT, AP Scholar with Distinction, Scored 5 on the following AP Tests – Calculus AB, Statistics, U.S. History, English Language, and World History and he volunteers for various community service agencies.

Youngjoo Park

photo of Youngjoo ParkYoungjoo Park is a senior at Polytechnic High School in the Riverside Unified School District.  (Principal is Wade Coe.)  She scored 2340 on her SAT, has a GPA of 4.54, and is ranked third in her class.  Her activities and honors include: Varsity Tennis, National Merit Commended, AP Scholar with Distinction, History Day State Finalist, Accomplished Pianist, Girls State Nominee, Press-Enterprise Young & Sharp Forum Writer, Key Club International, Inland Empire Weekly Intern, Inland Empire Magazine Intern, and she provides after-school tutoring.

Chenxi Qiu

photo of Chenxi QiuChenxi Qiu is a senior at Chaparral High School in the Temecula Valley Unified School District.  (Interim Principal is Tom Pack.)  He scored 2300 on his SAT, has a GPA of 4.50, and is ranked second in his class.  His activities and honors include: All-American Scholar, National AP Scholar, National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist, School Site Council, First Place in the San Gorgonio Local Section of the American Chemistry Society for the 2008 U.S. National Chemistry Olympiad Local Competition, Canadian National Chemistry Olympiad Finalist (top 11 students), Won Gold Medals in Cell Biology and Fermi Questions and Bronze Medals in Chemistry Lab, Five Star Science, and Remote Sensing at the Inland Empire Science Olympiad, Accomplished Pianist, and he volunteers for various community service agencies.

Miranda Ravicz

photo of Miranda RaviczMiranda Ravicz is a senior at Palm Springs High School in the Palm Springs Unified School District.  (Principal is Ricky Wright.)  She scored 2370 on her SAT, has a GPA of 4.69, and is ranked fourth in her class.  Her activities and honors include: Mock Trial, Varsity Swim, California Scholarship Federation, Junior Statesmen of America, AP Scholar with Distinction, National Merit Semifinalist, Riverside County Mock Trial Gold Medalist, Scored a Perfect 800 on both Critical Reading and Writing Portions of the SAT, and she volunteers for various community service agencies.

Dominique Salazar

photo of Dominique SalazarDominique Salazar is a senior at Murrieta Valley High School in the Murrieta Valley Unified School District.  (Principal is Renate Jefferson.)  She scored 2320 on her SAT, has a GPA of 4.37, and is ranked second in her class.  Her activities and honors include: President of National Honor Society, President of Mentoring Club, Secretary of Interact Club, Scored a Perfect 800 on the Critical Reading Portion of the SAT, California Scholarship Federation, Model United Nations, Good Citizenship Award, and she has received Rotary Youth Leadership Awards.

Sarah Sullivan

photo of Sara SullivanSarah Sullivan is a senior at Palm Desert High School in the Desert Sands Unified School District.  (Principal is Patrick Walsh.)  She scored 2330 on her SAT, has a GPA of 4.81, and is ranked fifth in her class.  Her activities and honors include: Key Club, California Scholarship Federation, National Honor Society, School Site Council, National Merit Semifinalist, National Latin Exam: Summa Cum Laude, Scored a Perfect 800 on the Critical Reading Portion of the SAT, AP Scholar with Honor – Scored 5 on the following AP Tests – U.S. History, English Language, Calculus AB, and Spanish Language, has completed seven classes at the College of the Desert, and she volunteers for various community service agencies.
