Linda Childress joins Curriculum Commission
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger announced today (Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2007), that he has appointed Linda Childress, 62, director of the Teacher Support Center for the Riverside County Office of Education, to the state Curriculum Development and Supplemental Materials Commission.
The 19-member Curriculum Development and Supplemental Materials Commission, commonly called the Curriculum Commission (CC), is an advisory body to the California State Board of Education (SBE). The commission approves curriculum and textbook materials for K-12 students.
Only one member is appointed by the governor. Jack O’Connell, State Superintendent of Public Instruction, is the executive secretary of this commission.
Childress has worked for the Riverside County Office of Education in various positions since 1987. She previously was a coordinator for New Teacher Support from 1991 to 1995 and for the California New Teacher Project from 1989 to 1991.
Prior to that, she was a training coordinator for the Riverside Administrator Training Center from 1987 to 1989. From 1985 to 1987, Childress was an administrator for the Riverside Unified School District.
She is a member of the Junior League of Riverside and the National Charity League. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no salary.
