County Superintendent honors top academic achievers

Mr. Kenneth M. Young, Riverside County Superintendent of Schools, named 7 outstanding students to the 2008 All-County Academic Team Wednesday, March 5, during the Third Annual Superintendents’ Academic Awards Banquet.
High schools from 18 school districts in the county nominated 129 students for honors based on their academic performance, GPA, SAT scores, and extracurricular activities. Each high school named from one to three students based on their enrollment. The All-County Academic Team was chosen from that list (complete list of students honored, their districts, superintendents, and principals).
The seven-member team is invited to Sacramento on March 11 for the Governor’s Academic Recognition and All-State Academic Team Dinner.

Alexandria Hall
Alexandria Hall is a senior at Hemet High School in the Hemet Unified School District. (Principal is Bill Black.) She scored 2290 on her SAT, has a GPA of 4.29, and is ranked third in her class. Her activities and honors include: Academic Decathlon, California Math League, United Cultures Club, National Honor Society, Interact Club, Varsity Tennis (Team Captain), Scholar Athlete, All-League Athlete, Outstanding Achievement in Spanish 3, and she has volunteered at the Pacific Life Open.
Maryanne Ibrahim
Maryanne Ibrahim is a senior at Polytechnic High School in the Riverside Unified School District. (Principal is Wade Coe.) She scored 2230 on her SAT, has a GPA of 4.58, and is ranked first in her class. Her activities and honors include: Varsity Tennis, AP Scholar With Distinction, National Merit Commended Student, History Day, National Society of High School Scholars, California Scholarship Federation, California Math League, Amnesty International, Level 4 Piano Certificate of Merit, and she volunteers at Riverside Community Hospital.
Jessica Jensen
Jessica Jensen is a senior at Palm Desert High School in the Desert Sands Unified School District. (Principal is Patrick Walsh.) She scored 2270 on her SAT, has a GPA of 4.63, and is ranked ninth in her class. Her activities and honors include: Drum Major of Palm Desert High School Aztec Marching Band, National Merit Scholar Semifinalist, AP Scholar With Distinction, President of the French Club, California Scholarship Federation (Treasurer), Academic Decathlon, Environmental Science Club, and she has competed in the Peter Solomon Quiz Bowl.
Albert Liu
Albert Liu is a senior at Centennial High School in the Corona-Norco Unified School District. (Principal is Sam Buenrostro.) He scored 2370 on his SAT, has a GPA of 4.72, and is ranked first in his class. His activities and honors include: National Merit Scholar Semifinalist, AP Scholar With Distinction, Member of the Corona-Norco Youth Council, MESA (Math, Engineering, and Science Association) Competitor, Tae Kwon Do Black Belt, Tennis, Red Cross Club, Future Business Leaders of America, and he tutors at the Corona Public Library and volunteers at the Corona Regional Medical Center.
Andrew Marnell
Andrew Marnell is a senior at Chaparral High School in the Temecula Valley Unified School District. (Principal is Dan Kenley.) He scored 2290 on his SAT, has a GPA of 4.51, and is ranked first in his class. His activities and honors include: Tennis, Student Athlete Award, Science Olympiad Medalist, German Club, Amnesty International, and he plays the clarinet.
Jordan Roloson
Jordan Roloson is a senior at Centennial High School in the Corona-Norco Unified School District. (Principal is Sam Buenrostro.) He scored 2250 on his SAT, has a GPA of 4.74, and is ranked first in his class. His activities and honors include: AP Scholar With Distinction, Received Third Place in the Rotary 4-Way Speech Competition, Varsity Math Team, Tutoring Club (Vice-President), Peer Tutor, MESA (Math, Engineering, and Science Association) Competitor, and he volunteers at the Corona Settlement House.
Sharon Wu
Sharon Wu is a senior at John W. North High School in the Riverside Unified School District. (Principal is Dale Kinnear.) She scored 2300 on her SAT, has a GPA of 4.55, and is ranked first in her class. Her activities and honors include: Science Honor Society, Interact Club, French Honor Society (President), National Merit Scholar Finalist, Literary Magazine Editor, Asian Student Union (Secretary), Varsity Tennis, and has received a Certificate of Merit for Piano – Advanced Level.
