Students raise money to help family with food, gifts for the holidays
Students enrolled in the Riverside County Office of Education’s Arlington Regional Learning Center (ALRC) and Grindstaff Community School have raised nearly $1,400 to provide food and gifts during the holidays for a needy family.
The ARLC Student Council, as one of their Council projects, identified a family of eight (six children ranging in age from six months to 18 years) living in a one bedroom apartment in Moreno Valley.
They enlisted the help of students at the center and raised $1,200 by selling hot dogs, tacos, hot chocolate, nachos, chips and soft drinks. Grindstaff Community School students also participated in the fundraiser, bringing in an additional $195. Students had set a goal of $700 and doubled that.
Students bought a gift certificate from Stater Bros in order to allow the family to have a great holiday meal, and gave the parents a gift certificate so they could purchase gifts for their children, buy clothing and blankets for the family. They gave gift certificates to each of the children so they could buy their own special gifts.
