Dad’s Day in the Park: Catch a Good Book
More than 600 people attended the Sixth Annual Dad’s Day in the Park sponsored by the Riverside County Office of Education’s Division of Children and Family Services June 21 in Fairmont Park. The event celebrates fathers in the lives of their children.
This year’s event had a literacy focus and was held in conjunction with the City of Riverside Parks and Recreation Family Fishing Derby. The theme for this year’s event was Catch a Good Book. Despite record breaking high temperatures, attendance was good and there were 57 food, resource and entertainment vendors.
Dad’s Day in the Park offered families, especially fathers and their children, a fun day together at low or no cost. Entertainment included the Bryant Park Cheerleaders, Moreno Valley Folklorico, the Wilsonettes, Cecily Jefferson, Jenna Polzin, and Amanda Waring. Additionally, Titus Entertainment provided DJ services as well as games for the children. There were even visits from Clifford the Big Red Dog, who handed out books to the children, and the Chik-fil-a Cow, who danced up a storm!
Children had the opportunity to have their face painted, create art activities, play games, and win prizes. Community agencies donated raffle prizes for families, which were excitedly received by the winners. The City of Riverside Parks and Recreation Department had their bounce house and rock climbing wall available for the daring and adventurous.
The Riverside County Office of Education serves 23 local school districts in Riverside County with trainings for teachers, fiscal support, and direct instruction for court and community schools as well as thousands of students in special education and career and technical education courses.
