Arizona Middle School Sweeps First-Ever Academic Pentathlon

Arizona Middle School placed first in the sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade divisions of the first-ever Academic Pentathlon for middle school students held May 21 in Riverside.

Scott Hovdey from Arizona Middle School placed first in the sixth-grade individual category, Kristen Pickering from Earhart Middle School was first in the seventh-grade division, and Peter Vo from Arizona Middle School was first in the eighth-grade division.

More than 200 people attended the first-ever Academic Pentathlon held at Earhart Middle School. The event drew six teams of students from Riverside County schools that competed in essay, math, social science, literature, and the Super Quiz.

There were team and individual winners in each category except Super Quiz, which has only a team winner.

Academic Pentathlon is similar to the Academic Decathlon for high school students. Teams are made up of A, B, and C students. Each team has to have members in each category. Visit www.rcoe.k12.ca.us for complete list of winners.
