2007 RCOE Report to the Community - Supporting Excellence in Education

Academic Pentathlon winners

Approximately 400 cheering students, coaches, and parents of sixth-, seventh-, and eighth-graders throughout the county gathered for the Riverside County Academic Pentathlon Awards Ceremony on May 24, 2006.

The Academic Pentathlon competition is based on each grade level’s curriculum and standards. The students from each grade competed in five events: Essay, Math, Literature, Science and Super Quiz (similar to a college bowl) in History.

An important and unique aspect of the Academic Pentathlon is that it is designed to include students from all academic abilities and achievement levels. Each team must consist of three "A," three "B," and three "C" grade point averages.

Gold, silver, and bronze medals are awarded for each grade in each individual event and in
team events.
