2007 RCOE Report to the Community - Supporting Excellence in Education

A Very Special Prom

photo of students at the promStudents in the Adult Life Skills Program at Menifee College have participated in the Friendship Club with the Advanced Psychology class at Elsinore High School for the past eight years. Every month, students enjoy spending time with the high school class in a variety of activities including playing games and sports, going to the movies, and learning how to dance.

Last May, Sten Crippen, the psychology class teacher, and his students invited our students to a special prom. The Friendship Club also invited many special needs students from district and RCOE classes in Elsinore.

Prior to the prom, both classes worked together in planning things like what to wear and how to dance. Girls from Mr. Crippen’s class helped our girls with their hair and make-up.

At the prom, students were treated to beautiful corsages, prom pictures, crowns, delicious food and of course "rockin’ music" to which they danced.

For many of our students, this was their first time attending such a special event. Not only did they enjoy themselves; they also created a special bond with the EHS psychology
students that will last a lifetime.
