Student Excels in Science
Jessica Richeri
Riverside County students, schools and administrators earned numerous awards and recognitions during the past year. I would like to share just a brief sampling with you. Let's start with Jessica Richeri.
As a 17-year-old senior at Corona's Centennial High School, Jessica was a star of the RIMS Science and Engineering Fair for this Inland region. Her project: a fully-operational autonomous robotic vehicle. Her scaled-down car was programmed to navigate city streets via onboard video and an algorithm that continuously analyzed angles and directions of lines on the road.
But that Gold Medal was just the start for Jessica. She went on to capture the Grand Prize at the California Science Fair, and to win an even more coveted award at the renowned Intel International Science and Engineering Fair.
By the way, her vehicle was also programmed to detect and avoid obstructions in its path. Jessica is currently attending Carnegie Mellon University in Pennsylvania and majoring in electrical engineering.
