33,000-square-foot Riverside County Office of Education facility will host trainings, events, conferences, and community events.

Architects rendering of a modern building with multistory glass entry.INDIO – Every year, students, teachers, and educators in the Greater Coachella Valley log thousands of miles and hours of travel time to participate in educational events, meetings, competitions, trainings, and conferences, that are hosted at facilities more than 50 miles away in western Riverside County.

The new Riverside County Office of Education (RCOE) Indio Conference Center will soon offer a local solution to this challenge with a 33,000-square-foot space that will host a wide variety of events without attendees having to leave the desert region.

A groundbreaking ceremony to recognize RCOE’s continued investment in learning facilities will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at the construction site behind the existing RCOE office at the corner of Dr. Carreon Boulevard and Calhoun Street (47-110 Calhoun Street, Indio).

“We are excited to begin construction on this functional and modern conference center that will benefit students and educators of the Greater Coachella Valley for generations to come,” said Riverside County Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Edwin Gomez. “From student competitions and professional development trainings to regional conferences and partnership events with the community, this facility will serve as a beacon of commitment to the transformative power of education.”

The development of the Riverside County Office of Education (RCOE) Indio Conference Center project was prompted by the popularity of the new RCOE Conference Center in downtown Riverside that has hosted nearly 2,500 events and more than 92,100 people since opening its doors in the summer of 2022.

With input from end users in Indio and Riverside, the facility features include:

  • 6,000 square feet of configurable meeting space
  • Large conference space available to host up to 375 occupants with configurable breakout rooms
  • 22 offices and open workspace for 30 staff members
  • 290 parking spaces, including nearly 100 covered with solar canopies
  • Warehouse and community space
  • Walking trail and covered connection to existing RCOE-Indio facility

Scheduled to open in late 2026, the facility will be designed by DLR Group with Erickson-Hall serving as the lead construction partner.
