2019 marks the 12th Annual ShakeOut, which began in Southern California in 2008. Since then ShakeOut has grown to include participation across the United States and several other countries. More than 62.5 million people worldwide participated in 2018 with over 6.1 million representing schools in California only.
This year, Great California and International ShakeOut Day will be at 10:17 a.m. on October 17.
Not just any drill will accomplish this; it needs to be big. It must inspire communities to come together. It must involve children at school and parents at work, prompting conversations at home. It must allow every organization, city, etc., to make it their own event. We are all in this together. Everyone everywhere should know how to protect themselves during earthquakes. Visit www.Shakeout.org to find out more on how to prepare and respond.
What we do now, before a big earthquake, will determine what our lives will be like afterwards. The ShakeOut drill will occur in houses, schools, businesses, and public spaces alike throughout California at 10:17 a.m. on October 17, 2019.
The Riverside County Office of Education encourages all schools, colleges, individuals and families to sign-up and participate. For more information, visit the Official California Shake Out Website.
