School Counselor of the Year
Rancho Verde High School
Val Verde Unified School District
For the first time in the history of Riverside County, the role of the school counselor will be celebrated with the recognition of the inaugural School Counselor of the Year award. As the first recipient of the award, Robin Ellison has set the bar high for future honorees. Robin’s efforts have led to increasing A-G completion, developing a Summer Melt Program to ensure financial barriers do not prevent graduating seniors from stepping foot on the college campus, and an overall insistence on growing the college-going culture at Rancho Verde High School that has revealed itself in FAFSA completion rates rising from 51.6% for the class of 2014 to 77.2% for the class of 2015. As a mother of six boys, Ellison is no stranger to helping students reach their full potential—whether that is at home or on a high school campus with upwards of 3,400 students.
