Biography

As the Principal of Cawston Elementary, Dr. Colleen Flavin has worked to enable a community where individuals, faculty and children, believe their peers are their greatest resource. Dr. Flavin’s goal of creating individual capacity to produce breakthrough results in students emerged out of a personal desire to help everyone who needed it, but was unable to do it alone. She began looking inward for a solution that would help the student population grow. Instead of having a single leader on campus, Dr. Flavin strives to inspire a campus of leaders that have the power to create change. This change includes rigorous education that teaches applicable skills, preparing students for college and careers. Additionally, taking on leadership roles in their school creates student skills, responsibility and interdependence. One of her colleagues says that Dr. Flavin “addresses the needs of the whole child”, and pays strict attention to “academics, behavior, and socio-emotional learning.”
