Strategic Plan for the Arts
Riverside County Office of Education created its first Strategic Arts Plan in 2019. We began the planning process before the pandemic and ended up finishing the writing and publishing during the time of school closures. When we all returned to in-person instruction, the state had published new Arts Standards (2019) and a new Arts Framework (2020), which introduced changes in focus and structure to the arts, as well as significant pedagogies. Also, the Proposition 28 funding that first became viable in 2023, radically changed the possibilities for sustainable development of arts programming with a re-imagined and stable funding source.
This Strategic Arts Plan continues to direct the solid and effective work in promoting and expanding the arts, done by the county from 2019. Additionally, it incorporates the current factors that have entered the educational landscape and seeks to direct how the county can support districts in the most effective way. The county will continue to provide arts professional development, arts advocacy meetings, student arts events and artists in residence in court and community schools. This plan represents new and additional actions and directions we plan to take in the next five years.
