Analytical Reading
The process used by students to analyze content-specific informational text to identify the author's intent, main arguments, and underlying assumptions describes analytical reading. Often, students will separate a book or text into smaller segments to understand how the portions fit within the larger context of time-era accepted social, political, and religious values.
Purpose
The ability of students to understand the purpose of informational text read within the era it was written in by the author is a goal of HSS. Critical thinking skills used to gain a sense of purpose by the students are clarity, accuracy, precision, logic, coherence, and correspondence.
Significance
The importance of independent learning, content knowledge, audience, comprehension and criticism, evidence, the use of technology, and appreciation for other perspectives and culture.
