Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Implementation Academy Featuring Dr. Katie Novak
October 29, 2020 @ 3:00 pm - April 15, 2021 @ 4:30 pm
Participants will learn the rationale and principles behind implementing Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and create a community of learners focused on implementation of these practices. UDL is a framework that improves and optimizes teaching and learning for all learners, provides flexibility in the way information is presented, in the way students respond or demonstrate knowledge and skills, and in the way students are engaged. UDL reduces barriers in the learning environment, provides appropriate accommodations, and supports, challenges and maintains high achievement expectations for all students, including students with disabilities, gifted and talented students, and students who are English learners. Participants will engage in six Zoom sessions with Dr. Katie Novak focused on usage and implementation of the UDL principles in their classroom, school site or district. Optional opportunities for collaboration and networking with others to share best practices will also be provided. Asynchronous follow-up work through the Alludo learning platform will be available. Alludo leverages gamification to encourage teachers, administrators, and staff to acquire new skills and experiences. By providing a fun, competitive, self-paced environment, players are empowered to own their learning, choose topics aligned with their goals while collaborating with peers, earning badges, and gaining knowledge.
