Aisha Randhawa Wins Record 4th Straight Riverside County Spelling Bee, Advances to Scripps National Spelling Bee

MORENO VALLEY – Corona-Norco Unified School District’s Aisha Randhawa outlasted Hemet Unified School District’s Ernie Ordaniel to win her fourth straight Riverside County Spelling Bee on Tuesday, March 19, 2019, at the Moreno Valley Conference and Recreation Center. Aisha Randhawa will represent Riverside County at the 92nd Annual Scripps National Spelling Bee from May 26-31 in Maryland.

The two eighth grade students spelled their way into round 30 when Ordaniel incorrectly spelled “innumerable”. Randhawa ended the round by correctly spelling “accusatory” and then proceeded to round 31 to clinch victory with the word “authoritarianism”.

The bee featured 29 spellers from Riverside County charter schools, private schools, and school districts. Top finishers at this year’s bee included:

1st Place – Aisha Randhawa, Grade 8, Auburndale Intermediate School, Corona-Norco USD

2nd Place – Ernie Ordaniel, Grade 8, Dartmouth Middle School, Hemet USD

3rd Place – Hope Edwards, Grade 7, San Jacinto Leadership Academy, San Jacinto USD

4th Place – Dylan Le, Grade 4, Washington Charter School, Desert Sands USD
