The Court School provides a comprehensive instructional program for students in juvenile facilities operated by Riverside County Probation. Court School enrollment is reflected in the number of youth detained in the Riverside County Juvenile Justice system. Riverside County Probation operates three juvenile halls (Riverside, Southwest, and Indio) and one Youth Treatment Education Center (AMC YTEC) in Riverside. Court School is in session year round.
The Court School received a six-year term of accreditation by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) in 2018 and provides students with curriculum, instruction, and assessment to ensure that students graduate from high school well prepared for college and careers. The instructional program is focused on the California (Common Core) State Standards along with rigorous and relevant learning activities that include project-based learning, high-impact classroom strategies and routines, Positive Behavioral Supports and Intervention (PBIS) with restorative practices, inter-disciplinary thematic lessons, and literacy across the curriculum. Students are enrolled in UC a-g courses and dual enrollment courses. Students are supported by systems to assess college/career/workforce readiness skills and have opportunities to complete the High School Equivalency Test (HiSET).
