Expanding Horizons Internships (EHI) provide opportunities for low-income, at-risk students to gain intensive experience of skill development and personal growth. EHI helps develop the student’s confidence, critical thinking, and professional workplace skills to further their academic growth and prepare them for career and civic life.
The EHI program combines the technical skills within career pathway courses in Legal and Government Services, Product Innovation and Design, and Welding, while providing students with professionalism and communication skills. Students learn the value of critical thinking, problem solving, and work ethic in our classroom-setting; plus gain experiential learning opportunities, such as facility tours, on-the-job training seminars, and job-shadowing.
EHI students are on an intensive, year-long adventure that based on the pathway includes the above skills, safety certificate, project to address a community need, 60-hour paid* internship, formal presentation and interview by a panel of industry experts, and Entry-Level Welding Certification from Precision Exams.
