Alternative Education

The Riverside County Office of Education Alternative Education program includes Community School (11 sites), Court School (3 sites), Desert Edge Adult School (8 sites), and CBK Charter (22 sites) . The Alternative Education Community School provides a comprehensive instructional program for students referred by social services, probation, or the district of residence. Community School is an educational option for students expelled by their district of residence. The Alternative Education Court School provides a comprehensive instructional program for students in juvenile hall. Desert Edge Adult School serves pupils incarcerated in Riverside County jails and adult students on probation who are placed through the county Day Reporting Centers. Community School, Court School, Desert Edge Adult School, and CBK Charter are accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and provide students with curriculum, instruction, and assessment to ensure that students graduate from high school well prepared for college and careers.

The instructional program includes California standards-based core instruction, credit recovery classes, physical education, and elective classes designed to help students develop their career goals and interests. Our courses and programs prepare students for college and careers. Students are scheduled in UC A-G courses and have opportunities to enroll in the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program, Dual Enrollment programs for opportunities to earn high school and college credit in the same course, and Career Technical Education pathways.
